Toss apps — Apps in Toss Mini-app Platform
Apps in Toss mini-apps that run directly inside the Toss app, built and run on one platform. It currently hosts three games — Today, Dokak and Oddballs — and PigNote, a location-based note app.
Small apps you open right inside Toss
Apps in Toss is a mini-app platform that runs directly inside the Toss app. I'm adding small apps you open inside Toss to this platform, one at a time.
Right now there are three games and one note app: Today's Choice, a choice-based adventure that starts at a crosswalk on the way to work and branches into 26 endings; Dokak, a clicker where you tap keycaps to collect currency; The Oddballs I Met, a quiz where you guess the name of an oddball that appears every midnight; and PigNote, where you leave photos and messages at a place like a sticky note.
Features that come with Toss
The mini-apps can be shared through the Toss share sheet and deep links, and watching a Toss ad earns rewards such as hints or a bonus round. Every day at 11:00, Oddballs announces the new puzzle with an "Oddball of the Day has appeared" push notification.
On the operating side, one admin console manages each mini-app's settings, content (images and sounds), publishing criteria and click statistics. The mini-apps fetch and use the content added in the admin.
How it was made
Instead of a new server for every mini-app, the mini-apps share one server, while each app's data is kept separately. Only PigNote, which deals heavily with locations and photos, has its own dedicated server.
Four mini-apps
Today's Choice
A narrative choice adventure that starts at a crosswalk on the way to work, passes through different days and ends back at the same home. It is portrait-only on mobile, with 242 scenes, 519 choices and 26 endings. Progress is saved on the device, and once you link an account, the same record is shared with Android. It launched on the web first; joining Apps in Toss is in preparation.
Dokak
A clicker game where you click keycaps to collect "gak", the in-game currency. As clicks add up your rank rises, and you spend gak to permanently unlock switches and decoration features. When your total reaches 400,000 dokaks (the Master Dokak rank), the 3D keycap studio opens automatically. Mini-games such as Timing Rush, the stopwatch challenge and the ice keycap pop up at random along the way. It is a standalone mini-app built by taking just the studio out of the web version of Dokak.
The Oddballs I Met peek-a-moo
Every day at 00:00, one "oddball of the day" appears as a pitch-black silhouette. Tap it and the oddball speaks its line out loud, and you have to guess its name using only that voice and the silhouette as clues. The answer is not the animal species but a quirky name the operator gave it, so the answer for "a flying pig" is Flying Pork Cutlet (날으라 돈까스). Even a wrong guess tells you which letters overlap with the answer, and each wrong guess peels away one layer of the silhouette until it is fully revealed after five. The more is revealed, though, the smaller the reward. You can buy hints for the first/last letter or the letter count with the currency, rice grains, and watching an ad opens a bonus round to meet one more oddball a day. The screens share a tacky, funny B-movie tone. It has also been brought to an Android app, which is being prepared for release on Google Play.
PigNote pignote
A location-based note app where you leave photos and messages at a place like a sticky note, and they open only when you actually step inside that radius. The more you leave and discover, the more the character Pig grows. It is the same PigNote as the Android app and the web, opened inside Toss; in Toss, Toss handles location and sharing, and you use it without Google sign-in.
